Note from Superintendent

Champions Run holds an impeccable reputation for its service, environment and beautifully maintained golf course.

The condition of the course lays on the shoulders of course superintendent Jeff Latka. Latka, a graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, is in his sixth year at Champions Run and feels very fortunate to be there. "My staff and the support I get from everyone involved in the club makes my job one of the best jobs anywhere." His typical morning begins arriving at the course around 4:30 a.m., where the first point of business is to get the greens mowed and the bunkers prepared for the day. "This golf course is always in tournament condition. The rough may be a little longer for the Cox Classic (5 to 7 inches thick) but other than that our members play on a tournament-ready golf course every day."

Latka receives feedback from the PGA TOUR, which involves visits from agronomists who make suggestions as well as give him feedback from the players as to what they like to see in a tournament-ready golf course. The comment he hears most is how great the greens are. "The most important thing that the players want and I want is to have consistency in the greens. What I mean by this is that (golf balls) all roll at the same speed, "said Latka.

When you're at Champions Run, take a look at the rough and check out the practice range and putting greens. What you see is a golf course that the entire city of Omaha can be proud of.
